Five ways to keep your loyal customers coming back for more!

What is the value that you place on a loyal customer? Hopefully you value those that are willing to buy from you again and again. Having a loyal customer base is what every business strives to have. After all, it is easier and more cost effective to resell to a current customer then to acquire a new customer. Even though we need to always be find ways to bring in the new customers we need to have a system in place to keep our current customer happy. We now live in a world were customer expectations are at an all time high. Like the old saying goes “what the customer wants the customer gets.” This saying has taken on new meaning and it is getting harder to come up with unexpected ways of delighting and surprising our loyal customers.

Here are a few ways that you can keep your customers happy and always coming back for more.

The First to Know

Everyone loves to be in the loop. So, make sure that your loyal customers always know what is going on first; whether that is an upcoming sale, new product launch, or some big news in your industry that could effect them as a consumer. A great way to do this is to get them subscribe to you via email, e-newsletter, or social media whatever way you choose to get the important information out!

The Free Service

Why nickel and dime your customer if they already account for a large amount of your profits. The free service will go a long ago to making the loyal, long time customer appreciate you that much more.

The Availability Factor

Are you there when they need you? Always look to make yourself and business flexible. This could be as simple as opening up the store 15minutes earlier so they can stop by before work or returning a phone call later in the evening because it is more convenient for them.

The Special Promotion

Run special promotions just for your loyal customers through out the year.  Look to have a system in place where more the customer spends with you the more they save, but you have to make it worth it for the customer. Giving your top customers 10% off is a slap in the face. Make them remember why they choose to do repeat business with you and make the promotion or sale a wow factor!

The Free Gift

I see many business give away free gifts to new customers, especially the local banks, but why not give a free gift to our customer who already does tons of business with us. Many think the best time use this strategy is around the holidays, but there is something to be said for receiving the random gift just because someone appreciates you. Trust me you’ll stand out more!

Question Of The Day:

What do you do for your loyal customers?

Sorry – didn’t realize it posted twice. I’m still at the ‘getting loyal customers’ stage, but thanks for the great thoughts. There are a lot of us out here who are trying to start our own business, don’t have a budget, and don’t know how to market ourselves. Any advice for finding customers without spending a fortune. I’m doing the whole social media thing, to no avail yet.

I am still in the stage of finding loyal customers. Any advice for those of us who are starting out on our own with no budget to speak of? I’m doing the whole social media thing, but not seeing progress yet. Networking for 6 months has brought me 1 job. Do we just go back to pounding the pavement? Great thoughts for keeping those customers you work hard to get – thanks for helping us small business owners!

    Hi Cindy,

I have one idea that comes to mind right away. Have you ever heard of Meetup.com? I am hoping to set up my own meet up group very soon, but it is a great way to host an event in your local area. I took a quick look at what you are doing through your website and I think hosting a meet up group could work for you! Maybe, you could do something with dinner receipts that are easy to cook and depending on where you host the event maybe you could even cook the recipes right there. You could even partner up with local chiefs to see if they would cook and host it at their restaurant, this way you don’t have to do all the work yourself. I just feel with using Meetup.com you can get the word out faster and reach your targeted audience in the areas you provide service. Social media is great, but still nothing beats face-to-face networking! I’m going to come with more ideas for you, but this is the first one that jumped into my head. Hope this helps!
